Edward Harden family papers, 1779-1928 (bulk 1830-1900).

The collection consists of papers of Edward Harden and other Harden and Jackson family members of Savannah and Athens, Georgia from 1779-1928. Materials relating to Edward Harden include indentures, receipts, account books (1836-1842) for his law practice, and common place books (1805, 1830-1837) containing accounts for his plantations, legal notes, and journal entries describing his daily activities. The collection also includes diaries (1864-1928, with gaps) of Harden's great-niece, Eveline Harden Jackson, describing her school days, social activities, the Civil War, and news of family and friends and a diary (1892) of Harden's great great-niece Elizabeth Carithers, detailing her social activities, church, and family news.

Edward Harden was a planter, lawyer, state senator, Alderman of Savannah, Georgia, justice of the inferior Court of Chatham County, General in the Georgia State Militia, and trustee of the University of Georgia.
